Steering Group
Purpose and Scope
The Steering Group is the body providing strategic input and direction for the FIDA process. This group helps identify the key strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats facing the industry over the next 5-15 years. Importantly, the group also helps relate this strategic analysis to a programme of activities and initiatives with clear objectives and achievable near-time milestones.
Steering Group members are expected to champion the FIDA process and its objectives to the forest industry and use their networks in the industry to gather and disseminate information and opinions.
The group is not expected to become involved in day-to-day implementation of initiatives or to make particular spending decisions. Rather, it may be called upon to help set the frameworks for investing funds, including such things as establishing priorities, criteria, reporting and governance arrangements.
Mode of Operation
The Steering Group meets around 3 times a year depending on need. If there are matters requiring decisions urgently or papers/options/proposals requiring input from the Steering Group, the management group may choose to circulate such papers out of session. Members are expected to meet their own expenses.
The Steering Group has administrative support from Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) for organisational issues such as:
- Circulating papers to Steering Group members;
- Disseminating information to the wider industry;
- Ensuring requests and action points made by the Steering Group are received by the appropriate body;
- Circulating meeting details and making logistical arrangements;
- Taking minutes of meetings and circulating these.
